Highlights of Bassano del Grappa

Immerse yourself in cycling heritage with iconic climbs, scenic vineyards, and the world of Basso Bikes and BCH.

Summary:

Step into northern Italy’s best-kept secret on this 5-night cycling adventure through the Veneto region, where each day unfolds like a storybook of stunning landscapes, winding roads, and deep cultural history. From the moment you arrive in Bassano del Grappa, you’ll feel the region’s embrace—this is Italy without the crowds.

You’ll ride through rolling wine hills, where each climb reveals hidden hamlets and stunning views. The real test comes with the ascent of Monte Grappa, a peak etched into cycling legend, including a heroic stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia. Different routes offer varying levels of challenge, but all promise a reward: staggering views and a true sense of achievement. Don’t worry if you prefer a more relaxed pace—pedal-assisted bikes are available to help you make the most of each ride. You’ll also explore the Foza climb that leads to the lush Plateau of Asiago. With its serene pine forests, vast meadows and fresh mountain air, it’s a taste of the Dolomites, just a stone’s throw from Bassano.

In between, there’s time to pause, sip a glass of local wine, and revel in the region’s gastronomic delights. After all, this is Italy, where food and wine are part of the experience as much as the rides.

Itinerary

Welcome to Italy!

Touch down at either Treviso, Venice Marco Polo, or Verona, all just a short hour’s drive from the charming Bassano del Grappa. After a smooth transfer to the Bassano Club House, you’ll meet your guide and be introduced to your perfectly fitted bike, ready to go. We’ll take a relaxed afternoon spin, and a stroll around the historic town, soaking in the sights and atmosphere. In true Italian fashion, we’ll end the day with a special aperitivo and a delicious dinner, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Into the Wine Hills

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at Bassano Club House, then roll out through the cobbled streets of Bassano. Our first destination is the fortified town of Marostica, famed for its castle and human chess tournament. After a coffee stop, it’s time to tackle your first challenge—the San Luca climb, winding through olive groves and vineyards. After a rewarding descent, the lanes lead to La Rosina, a short climb with its cycling-dedicated church at the top. We’ll stop at a local vineyard for a wine tasting before returning to Bassano for an evening of exploration, dinner, and drinks.

The Foza Climb and Asiago Plateau

Today, we venture north along a beautiful cycle path through the Valbrenta Valley. Your legs will be tested by the Foza climb, as seen on an iconic stage in the 2017 Giro d’Italia. Reaching the stunning Plateau of Asiago, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views and the scent of pine forests before we descend over 20km of peaceful winding roads back to Bassano. In the evening, we’ll visit the Nardini Grappa Distillery, Italy’s oldest, for a taste of this local spirit.

Asolo and the Asolini Hills

Roll out of Bassano, crossing the iconic Ponte Vecchio, before hitting the rolling Asolini Hills east of the town. En route to Possagno, you’ll pass by the striking Temple of Canova. The winding roads around Asolo offer a cyclist’s dream, with panoramic views and smooth descents. After a coffee stop in the elegant town of Asolo, we’ll head to a local gem of a restaurant for lunch, savouring the region’s rustic flavours before returning to Bassano.

The Monte Grappa Challenge

Today is the day you’ve been waiting for—Monte Grappa. From Bassano, you’ll tackle the legendary 26.6km climb, ascending 1567m into changing ecosystems as you make your way to the summit. At the top, take a moment to reflect at the War Memorial, a poignant reminder of the mountain’s history and thousands of British soldiers that lost their lives here. After a thrilling descent, we’ll head back to Bassano for a final evening of food, wine, and camaraderie, celebrating your incredible week of riding.

Time to Say Goodbye

Sadly, it’s time to part ways. After breakfast, your pre-arranged private transfers will take you to either Treviso, Venice Marco Polo, or Verona, bidding farewell to the stunning Veneto region—but taking memories that will last a lifetime.
