Monte Grappa
How many roads go up Monte Grappa?
The question we are asked more than any other by cyclists arriving in Bassano. The answer is more than you would think, and one of them is barely a road at all.

Bassano del Grappa · Northern Italy
We are Susi and Benji. We ride these roads every week of the season, eat in the places we send you to, and build each holiday the way we would build it for a friend.

Bassano del Grappa sits where the plain stops and the mountains start. Leave town by bike and within minutes the traffic thins, the road tilts, and you are somewhere else entirely.
North is Monte Grappa, with ten roads to the summit and a 2024 Giro stage on its slopes. Further north again, the Valsugana cycle path runs traffic free for fifty kilometres to the lakes of Trentino. East are the terraced Prosecco hills, a UNESCO landscape that looks more like Asia than Italy. South are the Euganean hills, volcanic islands that rose out of a sea. West is Valpolicella, and then Garda.
Most international travellers have never heard of Bassano before they arrive. By the time they leave it is usually their favourite place in Italy.
“We've taken many destination cycling trips over the years, but this one checked every box: spectacular routes, stunning scenery, outstanding food, and genuinely personal service.”Amanda T · Bassano and the Prosecco Hills · July 2025

These are the ones guests keep asking for, which means the groundwork is done and the timings are proven. Each one runs guided or self-guided. We publish the riding days we actually ride, and you choose which of them end up in your week.

Bassano · Monte Grappa · Asiago
BasecampThe mountain, the plateau and the wine hills, all from one town. You never change hotel. Four riding days to pick from, including Monte Grappa itself, the Foza climb to the Asiago plateau, and an afternoon in Asolo that is mostly about lunch.

Bassano · Asolo · Valdobbiadene
JourneyTwo weeks of Northern Italy in one. The hills behind our house first, then east into the terraces of Valdobbiadene where the vines climb every slope. A stop at an osteria where there is no landlord and you leave the money in a tin.

Bassano · Valsugana · Levico Terme
JourneyRide north up a river valley until the mountains close in and the lakes open up. Fifty kilometres of traffic free path, a stop at the Bici Grill where we always order the pinse, then two lakes you can swim in straight off the bike and a spa for the afternoon you decide not to ride.

Valpolicella · Lake Garda · Verona
JourneyAmarone country, then the long blue water of Garda. Small family estates where the person pouring made the wine, a day on the Lessinia plateau above the valley, and a finish in Verona. The only one of the four that does not start in Bassano.

Self-guided
You keep the privacy. You still get the table we would have taken you to.

Most of our days end up at a table like this one. That part is not an accident.

Susi and Benji
We met in Chiang Mai in 2019, worked remotely and travelled for two years, and somewhere between vineyards in Mendoza started talking about combining cycling, food and wine into something of our own. That conversation became Epic Italy.
Benji has been on a bike since he was thirteen, racing or touring, and knows every climb, cafe and quiet back road around Bassano. He plans each route and rides it before you do. His brother Sam, an ex professional and a coach, works with guests in the months before they arrive.
Susi grew up here. She is training as a sommelier and has a talent for finding the family restaurants and small estates nobody writes about. Andrea runs every transfer and luggage move, and plays bass in a punk band.
Most travel companies sell destinations. We sell what we know, and the people we know. That is the whole business.

What guests say

★★★★★
A 10/10 experience and without a doubt the best holiday we have ever had. Ben and Susi took care of everything for us, and we never felt alone even though the trip was self-guided.

They personally checked every route beforehand. We rode quiet back roads, through charming villages, and discovered places we never would have found on our own.

One of the best cycling experiences I have ever had, from the food and wine to watching the pros in the Giro race over Monte Grappa.

Experiences
Small groups, starting and finishing in Bassano, built with the producers and artisans we use on the longer holidays. Each one can be taken on its own or dropped into a bespoke week. The bike is optional.

An afternoon in a historic villa garden: pick herbs and vegetables, shape and decorate your own focaccia with a local chef, then enjoy it at an aperitivo in the grounds.

A full day with Basso, one of Italian cycling's great names, based right here in Bassano del Grappa. Ride on Basso bikes through the hills, then visit the heritage museum and the factory floor for a behind the scenes look at the brand's history, finishing with lunch.

Quiet roads through the countryside outside Bassano, ending at a 16th century Palladian estate for a guided villa tour and tasting of its organic wines.
Questions we get asked
Most days are between 50 and 85 kilometres with 600 to 1,200 metres of climbing. Every week has one deliberately easy day and at least one day you can skip entirely. We grade each holiday Cruising, Rolling or Climbing so you know before you book. E bikes are available at the same price as a gravel bike.
Guided usually runs for a group of six to twelve, friends, family or colleagues who already know each other, and above eight we add a second guide. Self-guided is priced for two.
Guided is built around a group, so for two the price works out differently. We can still do it, and we will tell you what it costs on the call. For most couples self-guided is the better trip rather than the cheaper one: the same routes, the same tables, and nobody else on the trip.
Accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, wine and water with meals, airport transfers, your Basso bike with helmet and fitting, mechanical support, your welcome pack, and us on call around the clock. Guided adds guides on the road and a support vehicle. Flights and travel insurance are not included, and we recommend both.
Venice Marco Polo, Treviso or Verona. All three are about an hour from Bassano, and transfers are included.
It starts with a conversation, then an outline and a price. A 30 per cent deposit holds your dates and the balance is due 90 days before you arrive.

No call centre and no sales team. The quickest way in is fifteen minutes on a call with us. If you would rather write, the form works too and the reply comes from Susi or Benji, usually the same day.
If you already know your dates, say so and we will come back with availability and a price rather than a brochure.
